Air Fryer Tilapia
Crispy Air Fryer Tilapia is perfect for busy weeknights. To enhance the flavour, cook tilapia in an air fryer with freshly ground lemon pepper. This fish is light and low in carbohydrates, yet flavour is not compromised.
PREP TIME: 10 minutes COOK TIME: 12 minutes to 16 minutes SERVES: 4
Ingredients For Air Fryer Tilapia:
- Half a cup of all-purpose flour
- Split two tsp kosher salt and add extra for serving.
- One tsp powdered garlic
- One-fourth teaspoon cayenne (optional)
- Two big eggs
- One-third cup Panko Bread Crème
- Two ounces of finely grated Parmesan cheese (about half a cup from the store or a cup freshly grated)
- Four 4-to 6-ounce fillets of tilapia, thawed if frozen
- Cooking mist
- Slices of lemon, for serving
Instructions For Air Fryer Tilapia:
- In a shallow dish or bowl, add 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, if using. Stir to mix. In a second shallow dish or basin, lightly beat two big eggs. In a third bowl, combine 2 ounces of grated Parmesan cheese and 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs; toss to mix.
- Preheat an air fryer, 5 1/2 quarts or bigger, to 400°F. After using a paper towel to pat four tilapia fillets dry, sprinkle the remaining one teaspoon of kosher salt all over them. Coat each fillet in the flour mixture, letting the excess drop back into the bowl after dipping each one in the egg. Cover the tilapia entirely.
- Apply cooking spray to the fillets’ tops. Place two fillets of tilapia in the air fryer basket in a single layer. The fish will simmer rather than fry if you overlap or overcrowd the basket, and it won’t be as crispy. Air fried for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Move to a platter and drape a loosely over a piece of aluminium foil. The remaining tilapia should be air-fried once more (check them early, as they may cook faster). If preferred, add extra kosher salt for seasoning, and present with lemon wedges.
NOTES FOR RECIPE STORAGE: Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to two days in an airtight container.
Highlights of the recipe:
Simple and fast: It only takes a few minutes to prepare the tilapia, and no marinating is required. This is something I make on busy weeknights a lot.
Delicious but affordable: When it comes to fish, tilapia is quite inexpensive and readily available at most supermarkets.
Either frozen or fresh: Tilapia fillets, whether frozen or fresh, work well!
wholesome: With only 120 calories per 4-ounce meal, tilapia is a low-calorie and low-carb fish.
This recipe for tilapia is one of my favourites because it never tastes fishy. It has a moderate flavour and is easily customisable, in contrast to other shellfish. This one was an instant winner for me, because I was raised to detest all fish flavours!
