Soft Homemade Pita Bread
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
1. Activate yeast
- In a bowl, mix warm water + sugar + yeast
- Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy
2. Make dough
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil
- Mix until a soft dough forms
3. Knead
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic
4. First rise
- Cover and let rise for 1 hour (until doubled)
5. Shape
- Divide into 8–10 equal balls
- Roll each into small round discs (like in the image)
6. Second rest
- Let them rest for 10–15 minutes
7. Cook (2 options)
Oven Method:
- Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C)
- Bake on a hot tray for 5–7 minutes until puffed
🍳 Pan Method:
- Cook on hot pan for 2–3 minutes per side
8. Serve
- Stack and cover with a cloth to keep soft
- Slice open to create pockets
