Cranberry Thyme and Pistachio Baked Camembert

Cranberry Thyme and Pistachio Baked Camembert

This Mediterranean-inspired appetizer combines creamy camembert with the earthy flavor of thyme, the sweetness of cranberries, and the crunch of pistachios. Perfect for entertaining or as a decadent treat.

Ingredients:

For the baked camembert:

1 wheel of camembert (preferably in a wooden box)

2–3 sprigs of fresh thyme (plus extra for garnish)

1–2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced

1–2 tablespoons dried cranberries (or fresh if in season)

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup

2 tablespoons pistachios, roughly chopped

1 tablespoon olive oil

To serve:

Sliced baguette or crusty bread

Crackers

Fresh fruits (e.g., apple or pear slices)

Instructions:

Prepare the camembert:

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Remove any plastic or foil packaging, leaving the camembert in its wooden box. If your camembert doesn’t come with a box, place it in a small baking dish.

Score the top of the cheese with a sharp knife, creating a crosshatch pattern. Be careful not to cut too deeply.

Flavor the camembert:

Tuck the garlic slices and thyme sprigs into the scored cuts.

Drizzle olive oil over the top of the cheese.

Bake the camembert:

Place the camembert (in its box or baking dish) on a baking tray.

Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the cheese is soft and gooey in the center.

Add the toppings:

Remove the baked camembert from the oven.

Sprinkle the cranberries and chopped pistachios over the top.

Drizzle with honey or maple syrup and garnish with extra thyme sprigs.

Serve immediately:

Place the warm camembert on a serving platter. Serve with sliced bread, crackers, or fresh fruit for dipping.

Tips & Notes

Fresh vs. dried cranberries: Dried cranberries are more widely available and offer a concentrated sweetness, but fresh cranberries add a tangy bite.

Pistachio alternatives: Use walnuts, pecans, or almonds if pistachios aren’t available.

Vegan option: Replace camembert with a plant-based cheese wheel and honey with maple syrup.

Presentation: Serve the baked camembert in its box or transfer it to a decorative serving dish. Garnish with sprigs of fresh thyme for an elegant look.

Storage: This dish is best enjoyed immediately. However, leftovers can be reheated gently in the oven.

Enjoy the perfect combination of creamy, sweet, and savory flavors!
