AIR FRYER APPLE FRITTERS

Reduced-fat apple fritters! It gets better—there are just four ingredients AIR FRYER APPLE FRITTERS! Do you have a sweet and savoury craving? This recipe for apple fritters cooked in an air fryer is the only one you need! A family favourite, these apple fritters have a soft, sweet centre filled with tender apples and a deliciously crunchy, golden exterior.

INGREDIENTS FOR AIR FRYER APPLE FRITTERS:

  1. One cup flour that self-rises
  2. One cup of Greek yoghurt, plain
  3. 2 tsp optional sugar
  4. One tablespoon of cinnamon
  5. One large apple, cut and peeled
    Apply glaze:
  6. One cup of powdered sugar
  7. Two tablespoons of milk, or more, if necessary

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AIR FRYER APPLE FRITTERS:

  • In a medium bowl, combine all the ingredients for the fritters. In the bowl, knead the ingredients three to four times.
    Combine the glaze ingredients; the resulting mixture should be quite thin. Put aside.
  • Place a round of parchment paper on the bottom of the air fryer. Make sure to liberally spray oil (not non-stick spray) on the parchment.
    Separate the fritter batter into four handball-sized balls. After gently flattening, put in the fryer basket. Apply a vegetable oil spray.
    Air fry at 370 degrees F for 13-15 minutes, turning half way through the cooking. Spray with oil again after turning. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
  • Drizzle or dip in the glaze then place fritters on a wire rack to cool and dry the glaze.
  • If you want more than 4–5 fritters, you can double the recipe.

One of my air fryer groups has a really creative cook who gave me the idea for this dish. Her recipe called for a few more ingredients than mine does; all I did was simplify it and add a small amount of sugar (which is an optional ingredient) to the dough.

You must mist these with vegetable oil, just like you would with most air fryers. This also helps with browning, and the tiny bit of oil will give the fritters a crunchier, almost-fried taste. It does require a lot less oil than deep-frying, though. Again, I highly recommend you spray them with oil. If not, the glaze can make them too sugary and the flavours might not blend together. This is the oil sprayer I use. Don’t be tempted to use non-stick spray.
