Cheese Steak and Rice Recipe
Description:
This hearty and flavorful Cheese Steak and Rice dish takes the best parts of a Philly cheesesteak—thinly sliced beef, sautéed peppers and onions, and gooey melted cheese—and serves it over fluffy rice for a comforting, filling one-bowl meal. It’s a quick dinner option loaded with protein, veggies, and cheesy goodness.
Ingredients (Serves 4)
For the Steak & Veggies:
1 lb (450g) thinly sliced beef steak (ribeye or sirloin)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
For the Cheese Sauce:
1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
½ cup milk
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Pinch of salt
For the Rice:
1½ cups uncooked white or brown rice
3 cups water or broth
½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Rice
Rinse the rice well and place it in a pot with 3 cups of water or broth and ½ tsp salt.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes (white rice) or 35–40 minutes (brown rice) until tender and water is absorbed.
Step 2: Cook the Steak and Veggies
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add sliced steak, season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Cook 2–3 minutes until browned, then remove and set aside.
In the same pan, add onions, bell peppers, and garlic. Sauté 5–6 minutes until soft and slightly charred.
Return steak to the pan, add Worcestershire sauce, stir everything together, and heat for another minute.
Step 3: Make the Cheese Sauce
In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
Slowly whisk in milk until smooth. Cook for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
Stir in cheese and salt. Stir until melted and creamy.
Step 4: Assemble
Scoop cooked rice into bowls.
Top with the steak and pepper mixture.
Drizzle generously with cheese sauce.
Garnish with parsley or chili flakes (optional).
