Air Fryer Rice Paper Spring Rolls (Gluten-Free)

Everyone loves these crispy homemade Air Fryer Spring Rolls. This recipe for vegan and vegetarian appetisers is filling. These wrappers made of rice paper also eliminate gluten.

Ingredients:

  1. One-third cup of roasted sesame oil
  2. Two minced garlic cloves
  3. 1/4 cup of shredded medium red or green cabbage
  4. 4 carrots, thinly sliced or grated
  5. one-half tsp of dried ginger
  6. half a teaspoon of sea salt
  7. 6–8 rice paper wrappers
  8. 2 cups hot water (to prepare the rice paper wrappers)
    Nonstick cooking spray
  9. Thai Sweet Chili Sauce (optional, for dipping)

Directions:

  1. Heat the sesame oil in a medium-sized skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sea salt, garlic, cabbage, carrots, and ginger. Sauté the veggies for 4–5 minutes, stirring now and again, or until they begin to soften.
  3. After removing the skillet from the heat, let the vegetables cool somewhat.
  4. One by one, prepare your rice paper wrappers. A large bowl with a wide opening and hot water in it is required. To make rice paper malleable, immerse it in hot water for a duration of 20-30 seconds.
  5. Place the wrapper made of rice paper on a level surface. You might want to place a piece of parchment paper on your surface because the wet wrappers tend to stick to everything. Working one at a time, place approximately 2 teaspoons of the vegetable mixture in the centre of each rice paper wrapper using a spoon.
  6. Next, create a burrito shape by folding each wrapper. Fold in both ends first, and then wrap the centre over itself. Until the vegetable filling is gone, continue with the remaining wraps.
  7. Arrange the packed spring rolls in a single layer within the air fryer basket. Aim to keep the spring rolls from touching or overlapping. Apply a little layer of nonstick frying spray to the spring roll tops.
  8. For five minutes, set the temperature to 390°F. After that, flip the spring rolls over in the air fryer basket and give them another coat of cooking spray.
  9. After five more minutes, or until the spring rolls’ exteriors are crispy, set the timer.
  10. Serve warm or room temperature, with a side dish of Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce for dipping.

Notes:

  • If you would rather, you can use fresh ginger in place of the dried ginger. Grate a 1-inch piece of peeled ginger using a cheese grater or micro plane.
  • You can use wheat spring roll wrappers in place of rice paper wrappers if you’re not following a gluten-free diet.
  • You can substitute avocado or olive oil for the toasted sesame oil if you don’t have any.
  • Make sure to purchase gluten-free Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce if you are following a gluten-free diet.
You can double this recipe, but you may need to bake the spring rolls in two batches, depending on how big your air fryer is.
  • Certain air fryers require prior heating. Be sure to read the manufacturer’s guide
