Tips:

Expert Advice:

  • Use cold, cubed butter straight out of the refrigerator. Applying soft, warm butter by rubbing will result in a sticky mess. When cooked, cold butter provides the scones their ideal flakey texture and keeps the dough cool.
  • To roll out the dough, no rolling pin is required. Simply form it into the shape of a disc with your hands.
  • Try not to handle the dough too much while shaping it, and keep your hands cool. A rough texture may result from the butter in the dough melting in your warm hands.
  • To guarantee that the scones rise, make sure your baking powder and self-raising flour are up to date.
If you’d like, you may use the pulse feature on your food processor to prepare the scone dough. But take care not to overwork the dough!

variations

  • Change it up by using various cheeses. Replace the grated cheddar cheese with Parmesan, gruyere, or crumbled blue cheese. For crunch, you may also add some chopped walnuts!
  • For more flavour, add a dash of garlic powder, dried herbs like thyme, or even finely chopped fresh herbs like rosemary or oregano.
  • Enjoy a little heat. Incorporate a small amount of chilli powder into the scone dough.
Stir some cooked bacon pieces into the dough for a smoky savoury flavour.

Storage:

  • Air fryer cheese scones keep well for two to three days at room temperature when kept in an airtight container. Allow them to cool fully before putting them away.
  • Reheat: You may use an oven or microwave to reheat cheese scones, or you can put them back in the air fryer for a few minutes to heat them through.
  • Freeze: For up to three months, store the cooled cheese scones in an airtight jar or freezer bag. Before serving, let it defrost at room temperature.
