Air-fryer spinach and patatoes patties

Air-Fryer Spinach & Potato Patties

Crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside, these patties combine tender mashed potatoes, fresh spinach, and aromatic spices. Perfect as a snack, side dish, or even a light lunch. Air-frying makes them golden and crunchy without deep frying.

⏱️ Time

Prep: 15 min

Cooking: 15–18 min

Total: 30–33 min

🍽️ Ingredients

2 medium potatoes (≈300g), boiled and mashed

1 cup fresh spinach, finely chopped

1 small onion, finely chopped

1–2 cloves garlic, minced

¼ cup breadcrumbs (plus extra for coating)

1 egg (or 2 tbsp chickpea flour for vegan option)

½ tsp cumin powder

½ tsp paprika

Salt & black pepper, to taste

2 tbsp olive oil (for brushing)

Optional: 2 tbsp grated Parmesan or crumbled feta for extra flavor

🥄 Instructions

1. Prepare the potatoes:

Boil potatoes until tender, peel, and mash smoothly in a large bowl.

2. Cook the spinach & aromatics:

In a pan, sauté onion and garlic in 1 tsp olive oil for 2–3 min.

Add spinach, cook until wilted (1–2 min). Let cool slightly.

3. Mix the patty dough:

Add the cooked spinach, sautéed onion & garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, spices, and cheese (if using) to the mashed potatoes.

Mix well until it forms a soft, moldable mixture. If too wet, add more breadcrumbs.

4. Shape the patties:

Divide the mixture into 6–8 portions.

Shape into round or oval patties about 1 cm thick.

Lightly coat each patty with breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.

5. Air-fry the patties:

Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (390°F) for 3 min.

Place patties in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Brush or spray lightly with olive oil.

Cook 12–15 min, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.

6. Serve:

Enjoy warm with yogurt dip, garlic sauce, or tomato chutney.

💡 Tips & Variations

Extra flavor: Add fresh herbs like parsley, dill, or mint.

Spicy option: Add a pinch of red chili flakes.

Cheesy delight: Top patties with shredded mozzarella before the last 2 min in the air fryer.

Make ahead: Patties can be frozen uncooked for up to 1 month. Air-fry straight from frozen, adding 2–3 extra minutes.
