Easy Wonton Soup Recipe

This is an easy wonton soup for anyone looking for a base recipe. You can add more elaborate ingredients to the soup such as mushrooms, spinach, bok choy, celery, prawns, etc. Or just enjoy its simplicity the way it is!

Ingredients:

  1. 4 cups chicken broth
  2. 2 cups water
  3. 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  4.  1 small onion, finely chopped
  5. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  6.  1 package round wonton wrappers (about 20-24 wrappers)
  7. 1/2 pound ground beef/chicken(cooked)
  8. 1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
  9.  1/2 cup finely chopped scallions (green onions)
  10.  2 teaspoons soy sauce
  11.  2 teaspoons sesame oil
  12.  Salt and pepper, to taste
  13.  Optional: noodles, baby corn, or bok choy for added flavor and texture

Instructions:

1. Prepare the wonton filling: In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped cabbage, scallions, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
2. Assemble the wontons: Lay a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Place a small spoonful of the pork filling in the center of the wrapper. Dip your finger in a small amount of water and run it along the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper into a triangle by bringing the two opposite corners together to form a point. Press the edges together to seal the wonton. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
3. Heat the chicken broth: In a large pot, heat the chicken broth and water over medium heat.
4. Add the chopped onion and garlic: Add the chopped onion and garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is translucent.
5. Add the wontons: Carefully add the wontons to the pot, making sure they’re not crowded.
6. Cook the wontons: Cook the wontons for 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
7. Season the soup: Season the soup with salt and pepper to taste.
8. Serve: Serve the wonton soup hot, garnished with chopped scallions and a sprinkle of soy sauce, if desired.
