Healthy Date Oat Squares

Soft, chewy oat squares layered with naturally sweet date filling and lightly spiced with cinnamon.
These are perfect as a healthy Christmas snack, breakfast bite, or tea-time treat — wholesome, filling, and made with simple ingredients.

Ingredients 

Oat Base & Topping

1½ cups rolled oats

½ cup oat flour (or blended oats)

¼ cup olive oil or coconut oil

3 tbsp honey or maple syrup

½ tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp salt

Date Filling

1 cup pitted dates

½ cup warm water

1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Prepare date filling

Blend dates, warm water, and vanilla until smooth and thick.

Set aside.

2. Make oat mixture

In a bowl, mix oats, oat flour, cinnamon, and salt.

Add oil and honey/maple syrup.

Mix until crumbly but holds together when pressed.

3. Assemble

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

Line a small baking pan with parchment paper.

Press ⅔ of oat mixture firmly into the pan.

Spread date filling evenly on top.

Sprinkle remaining oat mixture over the filling.

4. Bake

Bake for 22–25 minutes until lightly golden.

Cool completely before slicing into squares.

Tips & Variations

Add chopped walnuts or almonds for crunch.

Sprinkle sesame or chia seeds on top.

Use tahini instead of oil for a Mediterranean twist.

Store in fridge for up to 1 week.
