Ingredients

For the Mashed Potatoes:

4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed

4 tbsp butter

½ cup milk

Salt & pepper to taste

6 strips bacon, chopped

½ pound (225g) sausage (Italian or breakfast), crumbled

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)

1 tsp paprika

½ tsp black pepper

½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

For the Loaf:

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes

Boil the potatoes in salted water for 15-20 minutes until fork-tender.Drain and mash with butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper. Let cool slightly.

2. Cook the Filling

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove and drain on a paper towel. In the same pan, cook the crumbled sausage until browned. Add the onion and cook until soft, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic, paprika, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for another minute, then remove from heat. Mix in the crispy bacon and shredded cheese. Let cool slightly.

3. Assemble the Loaf

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Roll out the puff pastry on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

3. Spread a layer of mashed potatoes in the center of the pastry, leaving about 1 inch around the edges.

4. Spoon the bacon-sausage mixture over the mashed potatoes.
