AIR FRYER TUNA MELT

AIR FRYER TUNA MELT

An innovative take on the traditional grilled cheese sandwich is the Air Fryer Tuna Melt. Its crunchy outside belies its juicy inside thanks to the combination of tuna salad, fresh tomatoes, and melting cheese on wonderfully toasted bread. One of my favourite ways to use up leftover tuna salad is in a tuna grilled cheese sandwich.

Ingredients for sandwich with grilled tuna and cheese:

  1. one bread slice
  2. Mayo
  3. two freshly cut tomato slices
  4. two tsp of tuna salad
  5. two tablespoons of cheddar cheese, shredded
  6. One Provolone cheese slice

Prepared tuna salad at home:

  1. One tuna can
  2. Two teaspoons of mayonnaise
  3. One tablespoon of lemon juice
  4. ½ celery rib, chopped finely
  5. 1 Tablespoon of finely chopped red onion
  6. 1/4 tsp mustard, to taste
  7. To taste, add salt and pepper.

Directions:

  1. Drain the tuna from the can before making the salad. Add the onion and celery after that. Lastly, stir in mustard, lemon juice, and mayonnaise to taste. Add pepper and salt for seasoning. Ensure that the tuna salad is not overly thin.
  2. Prepare an open-faced sandwich with tuna salad.
  3. Turn the air fryer on to 350°F, or 177°C.
  4. Drizzle a slice of bread with a small amount of mayonnaise.
  5. Place around two tablespoons of the newly made tuna salad on top.
  6. Top with a layer of cheddar cheese that has been shredded.
  7. Add two slices of tomato.
  8. Spread Provolone cheese on top.
  9. Put it onto the basket or tray of an air fryer and heat for about 4 minutes, or until the bread is crispy and the cheese is bubbling on top.
  10. Savour your air fryer tuna melt that is flawlessly melted and caramelised.

Notes:

  • Variations in tuna melt
  • Although a tuna sandwich is a traditional midday meal, it might occasionally seem a little monotonous. To make your tuna melt more interesting, consider adding:
  • crisp veggies such as cucumber and lettuce,
  • A couple of avocado slices for richness.
  • For added flavour, stir up some chopped onions or sweetcorn.
  • Use sun-dried tomatoes or chilli flakes to give it a fiery twist.
