Time:

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 12–15 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

1 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp unsalted butter

500g (1 lb) cremini or button mushrooms, cleaned and halved

4 garlic cloves, minced

½ cup heavy cream

¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tsp chopped fresh thyme or parsley (optional for garnish)

Optional: 1 tbsp cream cheese or mascarpone for extra creaminess

Instructions:

Heat oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat until melted.

Add mushrooms in a single layer. Let them sit undisturbed for 3–4 minutes to get golden on one side.

Stir occasionally, cooking for another 5–6 minutes until mushrooms release moisture and begin to brown.

Add garlic, saute 1 minute until fragrant (don’t burn).

Pour in the cream, reduce heat to low and simmer 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.

Stir in Parmesan, mix until melted and creamy. (Add cream cheese here if using.)

Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with chopped herbs if desired.

Serve immediately while hot and creamy.

Notes & Tips:

Don’t overcrowd the pan: Cook mushrooms in batches if needed for proper browning.

Add wine or broth: A splash of white wine or vegetable broth before adding cream can deepen the flavor.

Cream cheese boost: Adds more richness and body—great for special occasions.

Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container up to 3 days. Reheat gently with a splash of cream or milk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use milk instead of cream?
A: You can use whole milk, but the sauce will be thinner. Add 1 tsp flour or cornstarch to thicken slightly.

Q: Can I make this vegan?
A: Yes! Use plant butter, oat cream or cashew cream, and vegan Parmesan.

Q: What mushrooms work best?
A: Cremini, button, or baby bella are great. For deeper flavor, use a mix with shiitake or oyster mushrooms.
