Delectable Traditional Hearty Reuben Bake
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of corned beef, cut thinly
- 8 slices of rye bread, cut into small cubes
- One can of sauerkraut, with a net weight of 14 ounces, after removing the liquid.
- 2 cups of Swiss cheese, shredded
- 0.5 cups of dill pickles, chopped
- 0.25 cups of onion, coarsely chopped
- 1 cup of Thousand Island dressing
- 4 eggs of considerable size
- 1 cup of milk
- 0.25 cups of melted butter
Optional:
- 1/2 teaspoon of caraway seeds
- Finely cut fresh parsley for garnish
Directions:
- Prepare the baking dish:
- Set your oven to a temperature of 350°F (175°C) before using it. Apply a thin layer of oil or butter to a baking dish measuring 9×13 inches.
- Arrange the ingredients in layers:
- Arrange half of the diced rye bread in the baking dish.
Layer the corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, sliced dill pickles, and onion on top. Layer the remaining bread, corned meat, sauerkraut, and cheese again. - Combine the wet ingredients: In a spacious basin, vigorously blend the Thousand Island dressing, eggs, milk, and melted butter until well mixed. Distribute the mixture evenly over the tiered ingredients in the baking dish.
- Incorporate caraway seeds (if desired):
- If you choose, you may garnish the top with caraway seeds.
- Prepare the casserole by baking it in the oven.
Place aluminium foil over the baking dish and cook in the preheated oven for a duration of 30 minutes. Uncover the dish and bake for a another 15-20 minutes, or until the surface becomes a golden brown colour and the casserole solidifies.
Provide: - Decorate with finely diced fresh parsley. Heat before
serving.
