Ingredients:

4 corn tortillas

1 cup refried beans (canned or homemade)

1 cup shredded lettuce

1/2 cup diced tomatoes

1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Mexican blend, or your choice)

1/4 cup sour cream (optional)

1/4 cup salsa or hot sauce

1/2 avocado, sliced or diced (optional)

1/4 cup chopped onion or green onions (optional)

Oil for frying (or bake for healthier option)

Salt, to taste

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Tortillas

Fry method: Heat oil in a skillet. Fry each tortilla until golden brown and crispy (about 1-2 mins each side). Drain on paper towels.

Bake method: Brush tortillas lightly with oil. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 5-7 mins per side until crisp.

Step 2: Heat the Beans

Warm the refried beans in a saucepan or microwave.

Step 3: Assemble the Tostadas

Spread a layer of warm refried beans on each crispy tortilla.

Top with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and any other toppings you like.

Drizzle with sour cream or salsa, and add avocado if using.

Tips:

Add cooked ground beef, chicken, or shredded rotisserie chicken for a heartier meal.

Use store-bought tostada shells to skip step 1 entirely
