Healthier American Pie Recipe Without Sugar and Butter
Ingredients for Pie Recipe Without Sugar and Butter:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
2 cups fresh or frozen mixed berries
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Optional: 1 tablespoon cinnamon for dusting
Instructions Pie Recipe Without Sugar and Butter:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a pie dish lightly with coconut oil or use a non-stick cooking spray.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well to ensure even distribution.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the coconut oil, unsweetened applesauce, honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, and milk until well combined.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, you can add a little more milk, one tablespoon at a time.
Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll out one portion on a floured surface to fit the bottom of your pie dish. Gently press it into the bottom and up the sides of the dish.
In another bowl, toss the mixed berries with cornstarch and lemon juice until well coated.
Spread the berry mixture evenly over the prepared crust.
Roll out the remaining dough portion on a floured surface to fit the top of the pie. Carefully place it over the berries, sealing the edges by crimping with a fork or pinching with your fingers.
Optional: Sprinkle cinnamon over the top of the pie for added flavor.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Remove from the oven and let the pie cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Enjoy your healthier version of American pie, guilt-free!
