Savory Shrimp and Broccoli in Garlic Sauce

Savory Shrimp and Broccoli in Garlic Sauce

Ingredients:

1 lb (450g) shrimp, peeled and deveined

2 cups broccoli florets

4–5 cloves garlic, finely minced

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional, but adds depth)

1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional for sweetness)

1 tsp sesame oil

½ tsp ginger, freshly grated (optional)

1 tsp cornstarch (for sauce thickening)

⅓ cup water or chicken broth

1 tbsp vegetable oil

Salt & pepper, to tast

Red pepper flakes (optional, for a kick)

Steamed rice, for serving

Instructions:

Blanch the broccoli:

Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add broccoli florets and cook for 1–2 minutes until bright green and just tender.

Drain and set aside.

Make the garlic sauce:

In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), sesame oil, cornstarch, and water or broth. Stir until smooth.

Cook the shrimp:

Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

Add the shrimp and cook for 1–2 minutes per side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove and set aside.

Sauté aromatics:

In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed.

Add minced garlic (and ginger if using) and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Combine everything:

Add the sauce mixture to the pan and let it simmer for 1–2 minutes until it thickens slightly.

Toss in the cooked broccoli and shrimp, stirring well to coat everything evenly.

Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.

Serve:

Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
