UTILITIES FOR RECIPE:
INGREDIENTS FOR AIR FRYER DONUTS:
- One cup of warm (approximately 100 F) milk
- 2 1/2 tsp. dry active yeast
- 1/2 cup plus 1 tsp of sugar
- Three cups of all-purpose flour
- One egg
- ¼ cup melted butter
- One teaspoon of vanilla
Glazing Chocolate:
- 1 1/2 cups of sugar powder
- 3 1/2 tsp powdered cocoa
- One tsp vanilla
- Three and a half tablespoons water
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AIR FRYER DONUTS:
- Mix the yeast with 1 tsp sugar and warm milk. Cover and let sit for about five minutes or until frothy.
- Combine the remaining sugar and flour in a large bowl. Stir in the egg, butter, vanilla, and milk mixture until all the dry flour is incorporated.
- Place your dough onto a surface dusted with flour and knead it for five minutes, or until it becomes firm.
- Give the dough thirty minutes to rise.
- Using a ½ inch thick sheet of dough, cut out circles that are 4 inches in diameter.
- Cut a smaller circle out of the centre of each donut with a knife.
- Give your sliced donuts an additional half-hour to rise. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F for five minutes while they are rising.
- Apply cooking spray to the bottom of your air fryer or line it with a tiny piece of parchment paper. After adding 4–5 donuts to the basket, cook them for 3–5 minutes. Transfer to a serving dish and continue with the leftover doughnuts.
- In the basket, add the donut holes, and fry for two to three minutes.
Regarding the Glaze:
- Mix the powdered sugar, water, vanilla, and cocoa powder in a small bowl and whisk until well combined.
- When the donuts are cooked through, dip them into the glaze. Add sprinkles on top, then dig in!
NOTES:
- Watch that your milk doesn’t get too hot.
- Don’t fill your basket too full. You should be able to eat three to four donuts at a time, depending on size.
- The secret to these fluffy and light air-fried doughnuts is to not skip the rising times.
- Fry in oil: Add a few inches of frying oil to a heavy-bottomed pot and bring it to a temperature of approximately 360°F. A few of your donuts should be gently dipped into the oil and fried for approximately one minute on each side. Before glazing, take the golden pieces out of the oil and allow them to cool on a drying rack.
- Melt 6 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium-low heat to make a sugar glaze. Incorporate two cups of powdered sugar and two teaspoons of vanilla extract after turning off the heat. One tablespoon at a time, add boiling water until the desired consistency is reached.
RECIPE ADVICE:
- I use this biscuit cutter, but a wide opening glass would work just as well.
- Don’t fill your basket too full. You should be able to eat three to four donuts at a time, depending on size.
- The dough you take out of the donuts’ centre can be used to produce donut holes.
