Classic Gram (Chickpea) Salad
Ingredients:
1 cup boiled chickpeas (or canned, rinsed and drained)
1 small red onion, finely chopped
1 medium tomato, chopped
1 small cucumber, chopped
1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
Juice of 1 lemon
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
Chaat masala (optional, for a tangy Indian flavor)
Olive oil (optional, 1 tsp for a Mediterranean twist)
Instructions:
Prepare chickpeas: If using dried chickpeas, soak overnight and boil until soft. If using canned, rinse and drain.
Chop vegetables: Finely chop onion, tomato, cucumber, chili, and coriander.
Mix: In a bowl, combine chickpeas with chopped veggies.
Season: Add salt, pepper, lemon juice, and chaat masala (if using). Drizzle olive oil if desired.
Toss well and let sit for 5–10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Tips:
You can also add boiled potatoes, pomegranate seeds, or grated carrots for variation.
If making in advance, add salt and lemon just before serving to avoid sogginess.
