SET UP TIME: Ten minutes

Cooking Time: Ten minutes
COMPLETE TIME: Twenty minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients For Honey Garlic Butter Shrimp & Broccoli:

  1. Half a cup of honey
  2. 1/4 cup soy sauce with low sodium
  3. One tsp finely chopped, fresh ginger
  4. Two teaspoons of finely chopped garlic
  5. 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  6. One tsp cornflour
  7. One pound of large prawns, deveined, peeled and, if preferred, with their tails removed
  8. Two tablespoons of butter
  9. Two cups of finely chopped broccoli
  10. One tsp olive oil
  11. To taste, add salt and pepper.

Instructions For Honey Garlic Butter Shrimp & Broccoli:

  • Combine the honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and red pepper in a small bowl and stir to mix.
  • Transfer one-third of the sauce into a bowl and add the peeled and deveined prawns.
  • Stir the cornflour into the marinade that was put aside.
  • Heat a wok or skillet (I use cast iron) over high heat. Add the olive oil, broccoli, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender. Take out of the pan and place aside.
  • After adding butter to the skillet, add the prawns and toss to remove any marinade. Sauté the prawns for two minutes on each side, or until they turn pink.
  • Add in the reserved sauce and bring to a low-medium simmer until thickened about 2-3 minutes.
  • When the broccoli is added, stir to reheat.
  • Serve with spaghetti or rice.

Recipe Advice:

  • For this recipe, I like to use large 16/20 size prawns, but you can use any size. The smaller ones, which depend on the size of your prawns, will cook a little quicker.
  • I purchase deveined prawns that are frozen.
  • I use fresh broccoli, but frozen will work too. Just be sure that before cooking, you defrost and pat them dry.
  • To ensure consistent cooking, chop the broccoli into bite-sized pieces.
  • Grate your ginger with a zester and save the remainder in the freezer in a freezer bag to maintain freshness.

NOTES:

  • To get a richer flavour, marinate the prawns for half an hour.

  • I do not remove the prawn tails. You can take them out if you’d like, but they look prettier and add more flavour.
