Ingredients to make butter at home
- Four cups of heavy cream
- One tsp sea salt
Directions to make butter at home
- Place the Cold Cream in a food processor bowl with a blade attachment, and run the machine on high until the buttermilk separates from the butter. Five to six minutes, roughly. This process will take longer if you use a hand mixer or jar.
- Move the butter over to a strainer. If you’d like, you can save the buttermilk.
- Extract as much of the buttermilk as you can by pressing the butter. After rinsing with cold water, crush and flip the butter until the water becomes clear.
- Add salt to the butter after transferring it to a bowl or the counter. Use half as much salt if you’re using a different kind (like table salt), and taste as you go to make sure the butter is salted to your liking.
- To store the butter for up to a month, transfer it to an airtight container.
How much time does making take?
It could take you ten minutes or longer to make your butter by hand in a jar and shake it; after that, you’ll need to wash and season it. I used a food processor to make mine in about five minutes. From beginning to end, the complete procedure took less than ten minutes.
Is making your own butter more affordable?
Yes, I believe so. At Walmart, a pound of Horizon Organic butter costs roughly $5.64. For roughly $4, I created a pound of butter out of a quart of heavy cream that I had purchased, plus I have the kind of cream that is best for my body. That is also a victory.
